Apart from the plenum sessions and the workshops, we will during the conference also host some of the most innovative actions of transition in Denmark. We call them Torchbearers, because they lead the way on the path of transition. Listening to them, hearing about their ideas and experiences, we can get a glimpse of how life could look like on the other side of the “Great Transition”.
The Torchbearers are initiatives theat we either met or worked together with during the project Omstillingsstafetten 2015.
Here is a short presentation of the Torchbearers present at Economy, People & Planet 2015:

Our goal is to make urban life more green and sustainable and consequently more liveable.

Mejlgade Lab is based in the Latin Quarter, Aarhus – Denmark and in particular on the street of Mejlgade, and acts to create local, community-based development, through a various of activities, green tests and pilot projects that support a sustainable transition in the specific areas. Our vision is to inspire and engage locals in green networks and communities, where Mejlgade Lab functions as an intermediate green and sustainable 1:1 laboratory.

A few of our current themes are waste management, intelligent rainwater solutions, biodiversity, green mobility and greening schemes, as well as others, in the densely populated city. At EPP2015 we will present the project “Cirkularium Food Loop”, through which we aim to establish a “circular green house” as well as a physical food loop for the purposes of education and demonstration. In its first phase this food loop will recycle organic waste from restaurants as well as coffee grounds for composting and will then grow new locally produced food in the Latin Quarter in the centre of Aarhus.

The Cirkularium will be a learning platform for circular processes that will inspire and involve regular citizens as well as businesses, students, pupils from kindergarten, primary school and secondary school etc. in order to redefine the concept of waste so that it is instead viewed as a resource. Through 1:1 testing and urban farming experiments this initiative aims to establish a series of interdependent hyper-local “loops” as an example of how one can reuse rainwater and kitchen waste in a compact growing setup and produce locally-grown food as well as developing green business models.

The project is carried out in cooperation with a range of partners, among these Klimaambassaden Aarhus, which will also be present at EPP2015.

We support people who take matters into their own hands and start creating a better world.

Everyday activists come from all corners of society. They create food waste cafés, they change the culture of health care by turning medical students into apprentices of the homeless, they build blooming city spaces on polluted lots, and they create communities where disabled people participate on equal terms. They challenge known solutions, norms and systems and create new.

The everyday activists replace the passivity of the consumer and the confrontation of the traditional activist with creativity, vigour and collaboration. They renew society bottom up and build examples of new solutions to societal challenges. The movement of everyday activism is a necessary part of the transition to a more sustainable world. It provides a new path to direct and concrete participation and it bridges the gap between experienced life situations and general challenges of society.

Sager der Samler supports everyday activists through community, access to networks of people and organisations, a place to work, communication, storytelling and solid knowledge about open ended, action-driven innovation processes.

At the conference we will share stories of everyday activists and examples of how they shape the world around them.

We are recognised as a socio-economic company based in Aalborg.
What we do:
· We recover food, all year round, from growers, processors, and retail stores, most of which would be otherwise wasted.
· We collect, transport, sort, and, in cases, store products in our warehouse in compliance with hygiene and security standards.
· We redistribute the food to partner charitable institutions that support people in need.
· From our own warehouse and pick-up points in the city, we redistribute the food to individuals who are out of reach for the charities.
· We engage people as volunteers who are dedicated to the cause and carries the desire to help others.

CSA is an alternative, locally based economic model of agriculture and food distribution, with growers and consumers sharing the risks and benefits of food production. CSA members, or subscribers, pay at the onset of the growing season for a share of the anticipated harvest; once harvesting begins, they periodically receive shares of produce. Just as the community supports the farm, the farm also supports the maintenance of the community.

We are looking forward to invite you to listen to how our CSA started and the results after our first year.
